The Frontiersmen drum and bugle corps was formed in the fall of 1971 in Olathe as the successor to the Trailblazers of Overland Park, under the direction of corps director Larry Carson.
The corps enjoyed a very successful premier year in 1972 with audiences and judges alike approving of this new group, as they competed in the DCI championships placing 34th in the preliminary round. The following year saw the corps participate in several 1973 regional contests that included the Kansas VFW and American Legion (AL) state championships, where they finished in 7th & 5th position respectively, the World Pageant of Drums, placing 20th in the preliminaries and a return to the DCI championships, finishing 40th in the prelims.
Over the next three seasons, the Frontiersmen placed 5th in the 1974 and 1975 Kansas AL state conventions and performed in the 1976 DCI Midwest regionals placing 35th in the prelims along with a 7th place finish in the state legion competition.
They disbanded in 1977.
