The Blue Knights drum & bugle corps was formed in the fall of 1974 from the ashes of the St. Paul (Coed) Scouts, after the Scouts decided to return as an all boy unit. The combination of Scout members and merging with the St. Francis Hilex parade corps, which was sponsored by the Hilex Bleach company of St Paul, helped build the corps’ foundation.
In 1975, the corps, in their dark blue one-piece uniform, participated at the American Legion Nationals, placing 22nd in preliminary action and returned in 1976 as a finalist, finishing 3rd. In 1977, the Blue Knights competed at the DCI “Class A” preliminaries with an 11th place finish and jumped to the “Open Class” division in 1978, placing 38th in the prelims.
The corps went inactive the next two seasons before re-entering the field of competition one last season in 1981 as a member of the Drum Corps Midwest association, placing 26th in the prelims.
The corps disbanded in 1982.
