The Royal Grenadiers junior marching and maneuvering corps was active in DCI and DCM competition in the first half of the 1980s. Their one DCI appearance was in 1981, when they finished 47th in Open Class Prelims. Their highest DCM finish was ninth in Finals in 1984.

The Royal Grenadiers Drum and Bugle Corps Inc, Kankakee County, Illinois was founded in the fall of 1979 to provide a worthwhile competitive activity for the youth of the east-central Illinois area.
The uniform worn by the Grenadiers is patterned after the Blues and Royals Regiment of the English Household Calvary Division. Chrome helmets and riding boots add a finishing touch to the style that has become the Royal Grenadier trademark.
Our 1982-83 staff is managed by program coordinator, Gary Moore. The show advisor is Gene Palowski. The performance staff includes: On Brass: Brad Niemi, Dave Smith. On Percussion: Gary Moore, Dan Leonard. M & M: Jim Baron, Stan Coclasure, Marge Anderson. The Guard is handled by Arlene Moore and Jo Billadeau.

The 1983 Corps is composed of young men and women of the greater east central Illinois area. They will log over 12,000 miles while appearing in over 30 contests and exhibitions in seven states and two Canadian Provinces.
Drum Majors Dominick Lovino and Bill Bodemer handle the corps and are assisted by Color Guard Sergeant Gina Gee.
The Royal Grenadiers Drum and Bugle Corps is sponsored by the Royal Grenadier Booster Club and communities of the Kankakee County area.
The corps director is Tom Billadeau.
