The Arizona Sun drum & bugle corps of Tempe was founded by the Arizona Sun Youth Foundation in the fall of 1990. The executive director was Lauren Ripley who was the backbone of the corps. The corps toured extensively during its’ short two year competitive seasons and participated at the DCI championships both years.
In 1991, they competed at the US Open “Class A” preliminaries, placing 12th, returning the following year and improved to an 8th place preliminary finish. They also participated at the 1992 “Division II” Canadian Open championships, earning a 3rd position at the finals. At the 1991 DCI “Class A” championships, the corps earned a 17th place finish and improved drastically the following season, missing out of the finals by two spots at 7th place.
Due to distance and financial challenges, the Arizona Sun remained active over the next three years locally before disbanding in 1996.
