The Epochs drum and bugle corps was formed in the fall of 1969 when a group of parents and their children who marched in the Plebes of Garfield, a feeder corps for the Garfield Cadets, split from the organization, under the leadership of Frank DiGirolamo.

In their inaugural season, the corps, sporting a Cadet style uniform, was crowned the 1970 New Jersey American Legion (AL) parade champions and entered the field of competition the following year, placing 9th in the 1971 Garden State Circuit (GSC) championships and defended their NJ AL parade title. The Garfield unit, with the addition of a female color guard, expanded their competitive field, participating in both the 1972 US Open “ Class A” and the World Open “Class B” preliminaries, finishing in 18th and 12th respectively, closing out the season with a 7th place finish in the NJ AL state contest.

The next year saw the corps continue its growth by finishing in 7th position in the World Open “Class B” finals, a 5th place finish in the GSC championships and a repeat in the NJ AL state convention, placing 7th. Over the years, their instructional staff included the incomparable Herman “Hy” Dreitzer, Vic Chester, Joseph Policastro and Kenny DeStephens. The group remained active as a parade corps in 1974.

They disbanded in 1975.
