Philadelphia, PA United States
Founded: 1929
The Cadets started its climb to the top with the Pennsylvania VFW State Championship and a third-place finish at VFW Nationals at Boston in 1946. This was followed by another state championship and a second-place finish at VFW Nationals in Cleveland in 1947.
In 1948 the corps reached the top when they took the VFW National Championship at St Louis. Another state championship and a second straight VFW National Championship was won at Miami, Florida, in 1949. After that show in Miami, a powerful hurricane struck the area, and the corps had to stay in Miami until debris could be cleared from the roads. This event inspired the Corps to adopt the nickname The Osmond Hurricanes.
Nineteen fifty saw another state championship and a second-place finish at VFW Nationals in Chicago, Ill.
The corps commander was Hiram E. Walker; music instructor and arranger was Lee Wolf.
