Dordrecht The Netherlands
Initially associated with the CJMV organization (similar to the YMCA), the corps gradually became semiautonomous as a street parade fife and drum corps. Their leadership set the standard for other similar corps in Europe before World War II.
During the German occupation, the Dutch corps was perceived by the invaders as a threat and was forbidden to perform or rehearse. Their drums and banner were confiscated. But with fifes hidden away, the corps was on the street again just two days after the American soldiers liberated Dordrecht.
With memberships above 150 in the 1950s, Jubal was active in National Fife Days in Holland, competitions at which more than 1000 musicians would perform.
Jubal changed with the times in the 1960s, as field shows became more popular. The uniform adjusted, but more so the instrumentation. Again a leader, Judal introduced G bugles, horns, and baritones to Europe. By the 1970s, the corps was traveling throughout Western Europe for performances based on the American drum corps model, and helped to form the first Dutch drum corps organization. Europe's first drum corps competition took place in 1979 in Eemes, Holland, with Jubal performing in exhibition. More than half of the judges were former Jubal members.
Throughout the 1980s, Jubal placed either first or second in every Dutch national contest they entered.
Jubal left the Drum Corps Holland in 1996 to develop a wider entertainment focus. Today the corps travels throughout Europe and visited the United States for the first time in 2002. They met archrival Beatrix on the competition field once again in 2003 when they returned to the contest scene, and won the DC Europe Open Class competition in a show entitled 'Classics Meets Jazz.'
A 2003 short film entitled "Karlchen's Parade" about a man who fantasized himself leading a drum corps featured Jubal as an integral part of the story.
