Blue Angels

The Blue Angels drum and bugle corps was organized in the fall of 1961 by Frank Sousa and were under the sponsorship of the Frank R. Vaise VFW Post 1263 of Renton and the Auburn American Legion (AL) Post 78 of Auburn.

Their uniforms consisted of dark blue shirts over dark red pants / white skirts, white shoes and shoulder cords and dark red garrison caps with white centers. They were quite striking. In their inaugural year, the Angels entered the field of competition, placing 4^th at the 1962 AL and VFW state championships, repeating their 4^th place finishes in 1963. They also were a finalist at the 1963 VFW Nationals held in Seattle, placing 12^th.

The Blue Angels hosted an annual show called “The Angels Sing” and were also supported over the years by the McMicken Heights Community Club and the Blue Angels Flying Squadron. In 1964, the corps was the only western Washington corps to own their own buses as they competed at the WA AL and VFW state championships, placing 5^th. The following year, they captured both the 1965 AL and VFW state “Class B” titles. 

In their final season of competition, the corps competed in Portland in June of 1966 but were unable to finish the season. They disbanded in 1967.
