Founded: 2006
Fusion Core drum and bugle corps was formed in the fall of 2006 by Holly & Ralph Marino, Maurice Banks, and Willy Carmona and located in Morris County.
Their first competitive year was in 2007 with their show "The Journey Begins". Part of the “Class A” division, Fusion Core finished in 4th place, just on the outside of making finals. In its second competitive year, Fusion won 2nd place in the “Class A” division with their show "Momentum", winning high caption awards in brass, visual and guard.
In 2009, their show "Progress" saw Fusion Core finishing in 5th place, once again just outside of the finals and followed up the next year with their first, and only, “Class A” title in 2010, with their show "Changing Perceptions”. In 2011, the corps finished in 2nd place for the second time in “Class A” competition. with their show "AfriCORE: Untamed".
In 2012, they moved to the “Open Class” division, as their membership grew over the 65-member limit for “Class A” competition. Their first year in “Open Class” division, "The Hit", landed Fusion Core a 9th place finish. Fusion Core continued their competition into 2013 with their show "Til We Meet Again", where the corps improved to 7th place in the DCA finals.
Completing its 8th year in 2014, placing 4th in the “Open Class” division and winning high color guard and showmanship award for percussion battery, their most successful showing to date. In 2015, the Core moved location to Lake Hopatcong as they presented their program “All Aboard”. The corps journeyed from New York to California on their way to a 7th place finish in the DCA championships.
The 2016 season saw the Core, featuring two large moving slides, perform their production “Up”. With yet another successful season under their belt, the corps continued knocking on the door of the DCA upper echelon, placing 5th. After a 6th place finish in 2017 with their show titled “Connexion”, the corps matched its 4th place position in 2018, performing their program “When I Grow Up”, returning to a 6th place with their 2019 repertoire entitled “Purple Heart”.
After the cancellation of the 2020 season due to the COVID epidemic, the corps participated in the 2021 virtual DCA championships competition, where they finished in 4th place for the third time in their history, with their program “Smile”. For the first time since 2011, Fusion Core returned to the “Class A” division and with their program “Royals Competing for the Crown”, was crowned the 2022 champions.
The 2023 season saw a reformatting of classes within the DCA circuit, as the Core entered the new “Open Class” division, which was just below the “World Class” and with their original music titled “Rise Up”, succeeded in finishing in 3rd position. Change was upon the DCA circuit in 2024 as the circuit was dissolved and reorganized as the DCI “All-Age” class, where Fusion finished 4th in the “Open Class” with their musical repertoire called “Breathe”.
In August 2024, the Fusion Core took a major transformation step, moving from New Jersey to Florida as not just a physical relocation but a symbolic step towards growth and evolution.
