The Diplomats drum and bugle corps was formed in the fall of 1966 by former members of the Edison Lamplighters of Detroit & the Vanguards Senior corps of St. Clair Shores.

Initially, the corps marched in parades and exhibitions, sporting the Lamplighters’ uniforms and equipment, traveling in Michigan and Ohio. They performed in both the VFW and American Legion state conventions, placing 5th & 8th respectively in the 1969 contests. That year, with new uniforms, the color guard won the VFW state title.

The guard marched the 1969 winter season but the corps disbanded in 1970 as many members joined the Marauders or the Vanguards junior corps.
