The Ambassadeurs drum & bugle corps was formed in early 1977 when the organization converted from a junior to an “All Age” unit. The corps director was the renowned John “Red” Harrison, ex drum major of the New York Skyliners.
In their inaugural season, the French speaking corps was enormously popular, particularly when the corps performed the “Can Can” dance. This sent the crowd to their feet and earned them the “Best Color Guard” award as they finished in 7th position at the DCA championships. On a side note, the corps entered the championships so late that they couldn’t find any housing. The Allentown Cultural Center officials came to the rescue and put the corps up for the weekend. The center went all out by planning a dance and boxing exhibition event.
The following year, the corps expanded their membership within the Saguenay region and returned to the DCA championships, successfully finishing once again in the elite “Top 10”, placing in 8th position including an amazing 2nd place finish in percussion. The corps went inactive over the next 7 years when they reorganized in the fall of 1985. Ambassadeurs returned to the DCA championships in 1986, finishing 14th in the preliminary round and 13th the following year. In 1988, the corps remained active, competing a at few DCA circuit shows and were crowned the Québec Provincial “All Age” champions for a third consecutive time.
The corps disbanded in 1989.
