The Fantasia III drum and bugle corps was originally formed in May of 1978 as a parade corps with membership of disbanded corps within the region that included the Valley Grenadiers of Hillsdale, the Muchachos of Hawthorne and the Royal Cavaliers parade corps of Ramsey.
On February 1st, 1979, the corps reorganized when both the Dynamic Royalaires of Oradell & the Imperial Knights of Midland Park joined the parade corps, converting to field competition for the 1979 season, under the direction of George Holden, Peter Ewald, and Jack VanEtveldt and sponsored by the Wayne Boys’ Club, Their instructional staff included Lee Romano and Paul Harvey on brass; Ed Argenziano, Bill Barlics, and Craig Osetek on percussion; John Carr and Mark Derhelle on visual and Walter Derhelle on guard.
That year saw the corps compete in the “Class A” division finals in the 1979 US Open, placing 6th & the DCI preliminaries, where they finished in 13th position. The next 2 years were very successful for the corps, highlighted by a finalist spot in both the 1980 US Open & DCI “Class A” championships, placing 6th and 7th respectively. The group improved even higher with a 13th place finish in the 1981 Drum Corps East (DCE) “Open Class” prelims and a was awarded 2nd position in the DCI “Class A” finals. In their last season of competition, the corps moved up to the “Open Class” division where they appeared in the preliminaries of the 1982 DCE (14th) , DCI East (18th) & the DCI championships, placing 39th.
In 1983, they merged with the Patriots of Cranford to form the Jersey Brass.
